5 Korean Medical Dramas on Netflix to Start With

Why are Korean medical dramas so popular? This is just my own opinion as someone who lives in Seoul, but I think it’s because a hospital shows Korean society in miniature. A hospital is where people face some of the most dramatic moments of their lives, so conflict between characters and emotion can be pushed to the maximum. The hospital system here is also one of the places where power structures show up most openly, from senior doctors to residents. On top of that, being a doctor is widely seen as one of the most admired jobs in Korea, so viewers are curious about that world.

Here are five Korean medical dramas to start with, beginning with the one everyone in Seoul is talking about this month. Netflix libraries differ by country, so check yours before you plan your weekend.

1. Doctor X: Mafia in White (2026)

Kim Ji-won plays a gifted surgeon who takes on corruption inside a hospital. It’s a remake of a Japanese series, and it began airing on SBS on October 9, with Netflix releasing episodes on the same day. News reports say it debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s weekly non-English TV chart, but rankings change every week, so check the current Top 10. Start here if you want something everyone is watching right now.

2. The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call

This one is more intense. Ju Ji-hoon plays Baek Kang-hyuk, an arrogant but gifted surgeon who joins a university hospital’s trauma team and clashes with his colleagues. It’s based on a webtoon. Reports say a second and third season are planned, but Netflix has not officially confirmed them yet, so treat that as unconfirmed for now. Pick this when you want fast pacing and higher tension.

3. Hospital Playlist

Doctors who have been friends for years work in different departments of the same hospital, and they love playing music together. It first aired on tvN in 2020, with a second season in 2021. It’s gentle, funny and more about friendship than dramatic surgery. If you want only one show to start with, I’d pick this one.

4. Daily Dose of Sunshine

Park Bo-young plays a nurse who is transferred to a psychiatric ward and works to brighten her patients’ days. It’s a quieter, more emotional story about mental health and the people who care for others, so keep some tissues nearby.

5. Dr. Romantic (낭만닥터 김사부)

A surgeon who left a top job in Seoul mentors young doctors at a small provincial hospital. It’s one of Korea’s best-known medical dramas, and it was popular enough to run for three seasons, with the third in 2023. Where it streams varies by country, and in some places only certain seasons are on Netflix, so check your own librar
